Japan’s Ryo Watanabe became the first seeded casualty in the Tep Khunnah Memorial ITF Juniors after the third seed was beaten squarely 1-6, 1-6 by Diego Garcia Dalisay of the Philippines in the second round of the boys singles at the National Training Center yesterday.
The top two seeds, however, had a smooth passage to the quarterfinals. Yu Feng Chen of Chinese Taipei got the measure of Manuel Balce III of the Philippines 7-6, 6-3, while second-seeded Srivatsa Ratakonda of India defeated Thailand’s Michael Mathayomchand 6-1 7-6.
Another upset of the day was Indonesia’s Odeda Muhammad Arazza’s loss to 14-year-old Malaysian Takeshi Koey 7-6, 5-7 , 7-5 in a match that was nearly four and a half hours long.
Rain delayed the doubles match involving Cambodia’s Leng Sarinreach and Tep Timothy against the Thai pair of Michael Mathayomchand and Saranpahon Siriwanichkul.
Meanwhile, Chheang Vannasith and Khleang Ponlok will face the Korean combination of Junhyeok Kim of Korea and Tae Young Yang.
