Boeung Ket Angkor quickly caught up with leaders Ministry of National Defence at the top of the Metfone C-League table after routing Asia Europe United 5-0 in a floodlit clash at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday night.

Having matched strides with each other all the way through the first nine matches, Boeung Ket and Army began the second half of the season level on points at 27 apiece.

Saturday’s 2-0 win by the Armymen over Police met with a stern response from Boeung Ket, who slammed in all the goals in a second-half blitz after AEU had managed to keep them at bay in the first session.

Striker Esoh Omogba’s 50th-minute strike opened the floodgates as Chan Vathanaka came out of the bench to fire in two more for a three goal cushion.

Ros Samoeun squeezed in Boueng Ket’s fourth goal in the 82nd minute, and moments later Omogba was back to complete his brace.Earlier in the day at the same venue, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng defeated Cambodian Tiger FC 5-3.

A fourth-minute penalty by Soeuy Visal and a Prak Mony Odoum double within the half-hour put the visitors in a commanding position. But the Tigers staged a spirited rally in the second half to set up an exciting finish to the contest.

The fightback began with Sles Seon neatly turning in the penalty box early in the second half and a Hong Makara goal just minutes later. But slamming the door as the Tigers edged closer, the visitors increased their lead through Nen Sothearoth and Sok Samnang.

The Tigers grabbed one more through Va Battor, but that was the closest they were to come to an equalising goal and a point from the match.
